How Is It Done? After the initial consultation, where it has been decided that bleaching will make a difference, your dentist will take a set of impressions. Custom mouthguards are then constructed. These must be made to fit just the teeth with no overlap onto the gums. This is because long term contact of the bleach and the gums may be damaging, and a properly made mouthguard will keep most of the bleach in contact with the tooth - where it's need most! The bleaching process takes at least two weeks and depending on the type of bleach used, you may have to wear the mouthguards (filled with bleach) for up to 4 hours per day. Colgate Platinum, is one of the more convenient bleaching kits available as it only requires wearing a bleach-filled mouthguard twice a day for an hour each time.
