What Is A Hemiresection?A hemiresection is a procedure when a damaged or diseased root of a multi rooted tooth is removed in order to maintain the tooth in the arch. Occasionally, too much damage is done to one root of a lower molar for a restoration or root canal to save - however, the rest of the tooth is in reasonable good state. Instead of opting for the extraction of the entire tooth, your dentist may decide to remove the diseased root and leave the rest of the tooth in place - either as a support for a bridge or crown it to protect the tooth from further damage. |
